Long after a virus wiped out humanity, the knowledge of the human race lives on in a civilization of androids who inherited the earth. Guided by the legacy of Athena, the first android to awaken, these machines built the city of New Jerusalem and set themselves a goal: to grow their population to exactly one thousand. The story begins as the thousandth android, known simply as 1k, is activated and welcomed as the fulfillment of that long-standing goal.
